The actress Cris Vianna, who plays the Indira character on the novela A Regra do Jogo (the rules of the game), on Rede Globo (TV), was the target of racist comments on the Internet on Sunday. “Have you already used this hair to clean the house today, African?” “Looks like the Bombril (scouring pad brand) (1) my mother uses in the sink”, “You African primate”, “Where’s Ibama (2) to get this porcupine off of Facebook” and “Macaca” (monkey) were just some of the comments she received in a posting made in September on her Facebook profile.

Amid the flood of racist words, some friends and the fans came out in defense of the actress. “Cris is beautiful and has the most beautiful hair yet,” countered one woman.

The Globo actress used another social network – Instagram – to respond. “Unfortunately, we are still going through this in the middle of 2015. Recently, the victim was the competent journalist Maria Júlia Coutinho. And now, just a month after my beautiful colleague Taís Araújo having been shamefully and cowardly attacked, here we are again needing to face hidden racists under the pretense of anonymity of the internet. On Sunday night, my Facebook page received a series of prejudiced comments, immediately recorded and sent to court. I cannot remain silent,” read an excerpt of the text published on Monday.

A spokesperson for the actress told the EGO website that “she is already taking appropriate legal action.”

  1. Racism’s roots has always been sex and inadequacy…the white women who sent her those racist messages, know that they can never look like her.. can never have her beautiful hair and skin. Deep down they know that they can never be as beautiful. White men have the same issue with black men… inadequate!
