The grand finale was broadcast live from the Memorial of Latin America
Janaina de Melo, 28, from the state of Amazonas, won O Aprendiz, the Brazilian version of The Apprentice on Wednesday, December 21. She won the prize of 1.5 million reais ($808,000). She also won a painting valued at $ 50,000 of Romero Britto, a Brazilian artist living in the United States.
Thrilled with her victory, she spoke of what she would do with so much money.
“I want to start a business. I will open it in 2012 or 2013. I don’t what it will be yet because I want to study the market first.”
Janaina has lived in the U.S. for eight years and is returning to Brazil.
“I suffered a lot there because I missed my family. Now, this will not be a problem.”
She also stressed the fact of being female and black and winning on a business reality show.
“I think it’s an example for the black race. Black women need not only to dream of being dancers. They can also be entrepreneurs, lawyers or doctors if they wish. I have the face of Brazil. With humility we always get there. My biggest hero is God.”
O Aprendiz was in it’s 8th season and was transmitted in Brazil on the Rede Record television network. Entrepreneur João Doria Júnior served as the host. The 8th season of the show attracted $34 million reais ($18,315,000) in advertising.
