Note from BW of Brazil: I have been wondering for some time how long it would be before someone would snatch up the beautiful actress/model/DJ Pathy Dejesus. I’ve pondered this question off and on since November of 2008 when I met Dejesus at the annual Troféu Raça Negra award ceremony in São Paulo. The award ceremony sponsored by the people behind Brazil’s only black college, UniPalmares, and the NGO Afrobrás, was being promoted as a sort of “Black Oscars” event honoring mostly black Brazilians that excelled in their fields, be it sports, television, politics, etc. It was my first time attending the event and I had the pleasure to meet and/or chat with a number of popular Afro-Brazilians, including rapper Rappin’ Hood, singer Netinho de Paula, politician Benedita da Silva, actress Maria Ceiça, singer Paula Lima and actor/singer Tony Tornado, among many others.
I also met and briefly talked to the model who, at that time, was known as Patricia de Jesus. After introducing myself and having some small talk with Patricia, I offered my condolences. You see, it was November and many black Brazilians were rejoicing in the recent election of Senator Barack Obama as the first black president of United States. I will never forget the enormous banner of Obama hanging at the entrance of the UniPalmares college. The mood at the Troféu Raça Negra ceremony was festive as Afro-Brazilians celebrated Obama’s victory as if he had come out of their own community. Although it was November, it had been over only about three months since Dejesus’s then husband, DJ Primo, 28, suddenly died of cardiac arrest back in August of that year.
DJ Primo, Alexandre Muzzillo Lopes, was an active figure in the Brazilian Hip Hop scene, as a DJ and event producer. He played alongside rapper Marcelo D2 and participated in the “Brasilintime” project, which became a documentary. He was also a part of the cast of the Hip Hop TV program Manos e Minas, on the TV Cultura network, along with rapper Rappin Hood. But after the unfortunate loss of DJ Primo, Patrícia would keep it moving.
As a model, she had already worked on an international level, in cities such as Milan, Paris, New York City, Miami, Cape Town, Santiago and Buenos Aires and appeared advertising campaigns for companies such as McDonalds, Claro, Garnier, Beer Sol, Sundows, Vasenol and others. On the runways, she paraded at São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW), Fashion Rio and did fashion editorials for magazines such as Elle, Marie Claire, Nova, Raça Brasil and Corpo a Corpo. In 2004, according to GQ South Africa magazine, Patricia was considered one of the ten sexiest models in Brazil. Patricia de Jesus, who would come to later be know as Pathy Dejesus, worked for 14 years as a model in Brazil and abroad also honed her skills as a DJ.
Along the way, Dejesus would begin building her resume as a TV host on MTV and as an actress on various novelas (soap operas) such as Belíssima and I Love Paraisópolis. In 2018, she appeared in five pay TV series: Desnude, Rota de Ódio, Rua Augusta, (Des)Encontros and Coisa Mais Linda on Netflix. Somewhere along the way, Pathy became involved with actor Alexandre Cioletti, and a few months, she announced that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child, a boy. When she made the announcement back in mid-January, she was already in her 17th week, so being about nine weeks later, it means she should be at about 26 weeks now. Congrats to Pathy!
Through social network profile, actress/model Pathy Dejesus announces her first pregnancy, remembers humiliation she experienced due to racism
The actress Pathy Dejesus used her Instagram on Tuesday (January 15) to announce her first pregnancy to her followers. She is, of course, pregnant with her first child. The 41-year-old actress is dating actor Alexandre Cioletti, the child’s father. In a recent interview, she discussed her path to success, which has included some not so good memories.
“My grandmother said I’d be an artist. People looked at her and said: “How will this little negrinha (little black girl/little nigger)?”, she remembered. For my son who is coming, Pathy has a lot of advice: “My husband and I talked a lot about this. My son will be born a mestiço (person of mixed-race). In other words, he will have to deal with two totally different worlds and understand the place he occupies,” she said, “I hope for a fairer and better world for him. I trust in a new generation that will come to break the paradigms.
Speaking about former Rio councillor Marielle Franco (PSOL-RJ) who was murdered a year ago, Pathy was moved: “An empowered black woman gives hope. You look, see and say: ‘Wow! She has a voice’ and then they silence that voice. It’s hard. We’ve made a lot of progress and this progress of the black woman bothers people”, she lamented.
As for the baby, Pathy was already seventeen weeks pregnant when she made the announcement back in January, even knowing the baby’s sex, a boy. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother. Always. Those who know me know that it is one of my biggest dreams and that has been getting more and more distant for various reasons, internal and external… […] But time passes and doesn’t wait, when I realized I was reaching 40, and I say I realized because I didn’t feel and I don’t feel until now, that age was ever a burden to me, but ‘physiologically’ it would be too late and dangerous to be a mother. But I had to be a mother! […] Behold, in my fourth decade of life, my soul and body came into connection and gave me the greatest GIFT of my life at the most perfect moment, when I feel most prepared and confident. My first pregnancy!”, celebrated the artist.
The actress also said that everything was natural, and that the news still hasn’t hit her: “I cry and laugh at the same time, my head still doesn’t understand what my heart already knew and what the small changes in the body already evident. We are pregnant! Healthy and happy pregnancy! It’s a divine blessing, I have no doubts!” she said.

“Do you know that moment in life in words are lacking to express what is happening inside of us? Of course, I’m standing here right now. You will understand why. I’ve always wanted to be a mother. Always. Those who know me know that it’s one of my biggest dreams and that was getting more and more distant for various reasons, internal and external … there were several struggles and a fierce race to succeed in life and to offer my best to the fruit of my greatest wish. But time passes and doesn’t wait, when I realized I was reaching 40, and I say I realized because I didn’t feel and I don’t feel even now, that age was ever a burden to me, but ‘physiologically’ it would be too late and dangerous to be a mother. But I had to be a mother! It’s no use explaining it with words, it’s STRONGER than us! I’ve already seriously thought about possibilities, after hearing that it would be harder to get pregnant by natural means. But life, loves, is amazing and often things happen when they have to happen. Behold, in my fourth decade of life, my soul and body came into connection and gave me the greatest GIFT of my life at the most perfect moment, when I feel most prepared and confident. My 1st pregnancy !!! And it happened so naturally that it still hasn’t hit me yet. I cry and laugh at the same time, my head still doesn’t understand what my heart already knew and what the small changes in the body already evidence. We are pregnant! Healthy and happy pregnancy! It’s a divine blessing, I have no doubts!!! I wanted to share this with you who follow me and always send me good vibes (please continue!!!) I am well and overflowing with love! ❤️🤰🏾🥰#17semanas (17weeks) #mãedemenino (mother of a boy) #mãedeprimeiraviagem (first-time mother) #seguracoração (hold your heart) Photo by titio @ aledesouza1970”
